I thought I’d share a few photos from some notebook shopping trips around NYC over the past few months. These were furtively snapped with my cell phone, so I apologize in advance for the image quality.
The first few pictures were taken at McNally Jackson Bookstore in the SoHo/NoLIta area of NYC. It’s a fabulous bookstore, [...]
I like the looks of this notepad:
It’s made by a Japanese company called Postalco, comes in blue and a lovely shade of green and measures 4 3/10″ x 5 4/5″. It’s sold, strangely enough, by J. Crew, for the not very reasonable price of $18.50.

These look kind of funky:
I think I want the one with phrases to use in meetings, to remind me there’s more to life than leveraging my core competencies.
They’re only $4 each, here.

Here’s some funky, colorful notebooks:
These 4×3 1/8-inch journals are filled with 48 gridded / perforated sheets, making them perfect for notes on-the-go. And with their five slip pockets and elastic band for security, they’re also a good hiding placce for those secret love notes.
They’re only $5 at the GAMA-GO website.

One of these days, perhaps after I win the lottery, I’m going to go on a notebook tour of the world. I’ll definitely hit Japan and Germany and the Philippines, and perhaps China if I can somehow infiltrate all the factories there that are churning out notebooks… but Russia will also be a destination high [...]
These look pretty cool, but unfortunately you probably can’t buy one! They seem to have sold out, but hopefully they’ll be back, as they seem to make new batches every so often.
For those who cringe at the thought of cool old records being re-purposed this way, here’s a note from the makers at Vinyl [...]

Nrepose of Unposted tipped me off to this rather nice-looking variation on the classic moleskine-ish notebook: the Little Blue Book, from a website called The Forgetful Gentleman. (They also sell a few styles of cards, which will please all who advocate the preservation of handwritten correspondence.)
This may be another case of over-the-top marketing for a [...]
Graphic Arts Magazine has some news on Moleskine’s new packaging for 2011 planners, including quality control codes and QR codes that will link to the Moleskine website when you photograph them with certain phones.
Not sure what the source is for this info, but you can read more at Legendary Moleskine notebooks announces new improvements [...]
A reader named Rebecca tipped me off to this cool-looking pocket calendar from Typotheque:
The design is so clean and modern, and it has a nice binding that opens very flat. There are still a few left at the webstore, priced at €15.00.
Thanks for the tip, Rebecca!
Here’s some cool-looking Miquelrius notebooks that I’ve never seen in a store: Design Boardbound Notebooks. The label on the front makes them kind of resemble the Vickerey Old Style School Quaderno journals that I reviewed a few months back. A commenter noted that those no longer seem to be sold at Vickerey, so perhaps these [...]
