My Latest Work Notebooks

I’ve almost always had a sharp disparity between my preferred notebooks for personal use and my preferred work notebooks. My personal notebooks are always pocket sized, with plain, dotted, or grid pages, usually hardcover. But my work notebooks are usually none of those things. I’ve written about some of my work notebooks before. In my … Continue reading My Latest Work Notebooks

Stationery From India

I saw an article a couple of months ago about some notebook brands I wasn’t familiar with, all brands of stationery from India. I haven’t come across many Indian notebooks up til now. Rubberband sent me some samples quite a few years ago, but I couldn’t have named any other Indian notebook brands off the … Continue reading Stationery From India

Turner: The Wilson Sketchbook This looks like a lovely facsimile sketchbook to add to my collection. Turner … Continue reading What I Want for Christmas!

Scottish Lockdown Sketchbooks

The gallery exhibition below at An Lantair in Scotland looks like quite an amazing presentation of sketchbooks. The sketchbooks were created during the lockdown, and of course with pandemic precautions continuing, it’s difficult for many people to view it in person. But you can see it online in their virtual gallery. [An Lantair’s] Lockdown Sketchbooks exhibition is … Continue reading Scottish Lockdown Sketchbooks

Notebook Addict of the Week: root39

Another addict from Reddit, who posted this helpfully annotated photo: I like how many of the notebooks themselves have been labeled. In the comments on the post, Root39 says some of these notebooks are from Muji, one is a composition book from the US, and the rest are mostly local brands, which I believe means … Continue reading Notebook Addict of the Week: root39

Daily Carry Notebooks: July 2020

Wow, it’s been a while since my last “using now” post. I can’t say I have any totally earth-shattering news to report about the daily carry notebooks I’m using but there is one new item that wasn’t even on my radar at that time. First of all, I suppose the concept of “daily carry” has … Continue reading Daily Carry Notebooks: July 2020

Yikes, just heard the news that Muji USA filed for bankruptcy: Muji U.S.A Ltd., which is operated by Ryohin Keikaku Co., filed for Chapter 11 in Delaware, according to a filing. An Art Critic’s Notebooks

In the Guardian, Adrian Searle writes about his usage of notebooks: One for dreams, one for writing down things you might otherwise forget, one for composing drafts and organising your thoughts: in the end, they all get mixed up, but that’s half the fun of keeping notebooks. You could use your phone, but it isn’t … Continue reading An Art Critic’s Notebooks

Notebooks from Hancock Hill

How would you like to sit at this desk and do some writing in a notebook? That desk is on Hancock Hill, in Alpine, Texas. It’s been there for 40 years. At first, the guy whose idea it was to put the desk there just stashed a notebook in the drawer so he could record … Continue reading Notebooks from Hancock Hill
