“I try to write down my honest thoughts”

Some interesting thoughts on journaling. I love the illustrated pages:   “I try to write down my honest thoughts. I leave my notebooks open on the kitchen counter all the time, and every once in a while, a house guest will steal a pilfering look. Sometimes this makes for interesting conversations. I have a horrible … Continue reading “I try to write down my honest thoughts”

Printing Photos for Notebooks

A few years ago, I bought a Polaroid Pogo printer. It uses Zink paper– 2×3″ sheets with peel and stick backing, so the prints are perfect for sticking in notebooks. Unfortunately, the Pogo printer was not compatible with all digital cameras, and used a version of Bluetooth that didn’t work with iPhones at the time … Continue reading Printing Photos for Notebooks

Brice Marden’s Notebooks

I’d love to take a look through these:   On a page of his 1964–67 journal, underneath a small cutout of Manet’s 1862 painting of Victorine Meurent, Brice Marden wrote, “Cézanne tried to kill painting by denying forms for the sake of painting. He seems to have come closest to painting painting out … I … Continue reading Brice Marden’s Notebooks

The latest is the “Blend Collection,” which feature woven cloth covers and contrasting elastics: The Moleskine logo on the back can’t be debossed as usual, so they’ve put it on a little patch: See more at Moleskine Blend Collection.

Paper Saver Notebook

Here’s an interesting concept– the Paper Saver notebook “The Paper Saver turns your printed paper into a stylish faux leather notebook. Once the paper is inserted into the Paper Saver, it will become an elegant, professional notebook.” It’s a nice idea– I always seem to have a mountain of paper to recycle in my office … Continue reading Paper Saver Notebook

Richard Diebenkorn’s Sketchbooks

A page from one of Richard Diebenkorn’s sketchbooks– on the day his father died, he drew his hat and shoe and hankerchief: “Thanks to a gift from the Richard Diebenkorn Foundation, 29 of the artist’s sketchbooks will be on display at Stanford’s Cantor Arts Center starting Sept. 9. For over two decades since the artist’s … Continue reading Richard Diebenkorn’s Sketchbooks

Talking to Strangers About Notebooks

I was on the train the other night and took out my notebook to jot something down. The woman sitting next to me, with whom I had not exchanged a word up til then, said “Oh wow, that’s so nice to see that you are using a paper notebook! You never see anyone writing in … Continue reading Talking to Strangers About Notebooks

Sideshow Press Note Pad Folio

Here’s a notebook that sent me into a wave of nostalgia: the Note Pad Folio from Sideshow Press. The pressboard cover reminds me so much of various notebooks I had as a kid into my college years. I had a blue report cover made of this material, with a spring-action clip inside. I also had … Continue reading Sideshow Press Note Pad Folio

Notebooks With Embroidered Science Illustrations

These notebooks have an unusual design combo: vintage science, math and medical illustrations embellished with embroidery: “Since we last checked out Athens-based Fabulous Cat Papers (previously) they’ve released a whole new series of notebooks that incorporate vintage science/medical illustrations printed on Japanese paper with hand-stitched embroidery. The notebooks come in a variety of sizes and … Continue reading Notebooks With Embroidered Science Illustrations
