  1. This is known as a guntai techou, basically the Japanese soldier’s service booklet. Every soldier in the Imperial Japanese Army received one. Contents include words from the emperor (as well as from Hideki Tojo for those examples from WW2), as well as the individual soldier’s information like past occupation, education, medals awarded, unit(s) joined, campaigns fought, and sometimes where he was wounded. Endlessly interesting to study. The one pictured is most likely from WW2 due to the coloring of the cover.
