This spring, I’m going to be driving from New York to California and back, with lots of stops along the way. I’m hoping that part of my adventure will be finding some cool independent shops that sell notebooks! What are your favorite retailers in the US that I should visit? Arizona and the Bay Area are where I’ll have the most time, but I’d love your recommendations nationwide.
If you drive through Albuquerque, have a stop at Pennysmiths and Pen & Pad.

I once found an army surplus store on historic route 66 that carried Rite in the Rain notebooks. Also another route 66 gift shop type place carried a pocket guide to route 66 that was reminiscent of Field Notes. Don’t forget to stop at random travel centers and truck stops for postcards!
If you come through Kansas/Missouri, then stop by Wonder Fair in Lawrence, KS for sure. Little Rock, Arkansas is a must for the epic Vanness Pen Shop. New Orleans is Papier Plume. Kansas City and I can take you to Pen Place, Hammerpress and a tour of Skylab Letterpress. Chicago is Greer Chicago.
