Notebook Addict of the Week: Matt Hutcheson from Wanderings Notebook

People who start companies to make notebooks are usually notebook addicts– here’s a case in point. The Wanderings Notebook is a refillable leather notebook similar to the Midori Traveler’s Notebook. But on the company’s blog, Matt Hutcheson offers an agnostic appreciation of notebooks in general, with this shot of the his collection, plus some thoughts on how to select the type of notebook that will work best for you. Or rather, the different factors that you might consider in buying ALL the notebooks that work best for you!

“Here at Wanderings we make The Wanderings Notebook and are super proud of it, but that doesn’t mean weren’t not, ahem, slightly addicted to every kind of notebook and journal in existence.”

Nanami Paper’s Value Comparison

A commenter named Sara reminded me to check out what might be new at Nanami Paper. If you like the Tomoe River paper found in certain Japanese notebooks, such as those made by Design.Y, Nanami Paper offers its own brand of notebooks called Seven Seas, which feature this lovely paper in a softcover lay-flat binding. They have also expanded their offerings to other Japanese notebooks, as well as pens and accessories.

The other nice thing about Nanami Paper’s website is the thorough information they provide. I loved this comparison chart analyzing the value of popular notebook brands by how many square inches of writing space you get per dollar. It’s quite illuminating!

Notebook Addict of the Week: Suz Blackaby

This week’s addict is another discovery via Sharing Our Notebooks. Suz Blackaby is a writer of poetry, fiction and non-fiction for children. She’s laid out quite a collection of notebooks on this table! And yet she says she still resorts to jotting things on envelopes and napkins…

“So when it comes to notebooks, it turns out that I have a ridiculous number and variety in my greedy possession: linen-over-boards-in-pleasing-colors; high-end paper with/without lines/grids; handmade by dear friends; lovingly and cleverly chosen by traveling family members; discovered in quaint corners of art, paper, writing, museum, &/or book shops; etc. I stockpile a stockpile. Turns out this is maybe an illness….

hoard (n.): cache, stockpile, stock, collection, supply, reserve, reservoir, fund, accumulation, treasury, stash, gathering, set, assortment, pool

hoard (v.): save, store, amass, stockpile, accumulate, collect, gather, put aside, hide away, squirrel away, assemble, accrue”

Notebook Addict of the Week: Video Eleven

Here’s an addict with a nice assortment of notebooks and fountain pens. Interestingly, the notebooks seem to have quite a variety, but the pens look like they are all variations of the same brand…
The photo tags mention Rhodia and Whitelines. I think I also spy Moleskine and Life notebooks.
